Updated Reading Rocket 27 May 2015

Wow!   What a change!  I am really glad that all the students are bringing their book bags everyday and reading their home readers.  Working through the spelling lists really helps as well.  I really appreciate the effort you are putting in to support your child.

New Writing Rocket

We have had a busy week in Room 2.  The children have been undergoing lots of assessment to establish their writing levels.  I am so proud to say that all students have made exciting progress this term.  We love sharing our progress with our peers, family and community.  So please take the time to congratulate your mokos on their progress.
After one year at school your child needs working within level 1.  At the end of 2  years at school your child needs to be working at the end of level 1.  I have sent home information today in their home communication books to clarify this.  However, feel free to talk to me about National Standards in any of the curriculum areas.  Please keep in mind that National Standards are a small part of tracking your child's progress and the children are all fabulous at different things, in different ways and at different times.

Week 5, Term 2 Maths groups.

You will often see your child change groups.  This means they are working with children at similar levels.  For example your child maybe a wizz at adding numbers to 10 and need to work on their ability to count on from the biggest number.  I am happy to explain any part of the programme and what I am specifically doing to help your child get to the next level.

Our Maori Story

The Taniwha is a magical, massive creature that is a little bit like a whale or a shark.  The golden, glowing hook dropped down into the dark, deep ocean to catch the Taniwha.
The great waka got destroyed and the waka turned into the Southern mountains.  The brothers turned into rock and became guardians of the snowy mountains.
